Trails Committee Newsletter

We are organizing a ceremonial ground breaking event on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 to kick off the project. As donors and Friends of the Millennium Trail, you are all invited to attend and help us celebrate the start of this project that, when finished, will provide a 48- kilometre resurfaced recreational trail that will benefit County residents for years to come.

Trail upgrade co-ordination by ad hoc committee

After twice tendering for the work and receiving higher than expected bids, it appears the municipality will take a novel direction in the effort to restore the Millennium Trail.

On Thursday committee of the whole supported a motion that would cancel the tender issued for the Millennium Trail rehabilitation. The motion would also establish the Millennium Trail rehabilitation ad-hoc committee for the purpose of facilitating the capital project as approved by council. The motion would appoint current Prince Edward County Trails Committee members Barry Davidson, Patrick Maloney, Amy Bodman, and Vincent de Tourdonnet to the committee.

Trail upgrade program begins this fall

The trek toward a smooth, more user-friendly Millennium Trail will get underway in the coming weeks.

The municipality is carrying out a three-year upgrade project in partnership with the Prince Edward County (PEC) Trails Committee, an external citizen committee dedicated to expanding and promoting The County’s trail networks. The County has committed $370,000 to the project, while the trail committee has fundraised $110,000, far surpassing its original goal of $80,000.

The County of Prince Edward is carrying out a three-year upgrade project in partnership with the Prince Edward County (PEC) Trails Committee, an external citizen committee dedicated to expanding and promoting The County’s trail networks. The municipality has committed $370,000 to the project, while the trails committee has fundraised $110,000, far surpassing its original goal of $80,000.

“The public support for the Millennium Trail upgrade is outstanding, and we are excited that this project is moving forward,” Mayor Robert Quaiff says. “The work undertaken over the next three years promises to deliver an outstanding recreational amenity that residents and visitors alike can experience and enjoy.”

Almost ready to go …

Trails Committee Newsletter

In the next month or so The County will begin a three year resurfacing project that will see the trail brought up to the Wellington area trail standards as developed by the Rotary Club of Wellington. When finished, our 46 Kilometre Trail will be accessible to users of all ages and mobility capabilities.

County Partners with PEC Trails Committee

As part of the project, the Trail will be graded and re-surfaced with crushed limestone, making it more accessible and enjoyable for all. Upgrades will also include the installation of kilometre markers and way-finding signage that will guide Trail users to nearby points of interest. “The Millennium Trail is a point of pride for our community,” said Mayor Robert Quaiff. “I see this project as an investment in a community asset that serves both as a recreational facility for our residents and as an added attraction for our visitors.”
